On Monday, April 3, 2023, the Rotary Club of Aviles planted 50 new trees in the "Rotary Forest" of La Grandiella. These are 15 birches, 15 saplings, 10 oaks and 10 maples, in addition to the 25 oaks and 25 maples that since last year have been planted in the strip of land that separates the avenue of La Grandiella from the N-632, forming a screen of vegetation.

This planting is the second one developed under the collaboration agreement signed last year between the Rotary Club Avilés and the City Council of Avilés. Through this agreement, the Rotary Club is committed to periodically provide trees for planting, which will be carried out by the municipal services of the City Council, in the green areas of this area of the city. This agreement has allowed the creation of the "Rotary Forest of La Grandiella", which was inaugurated last year.

This year's planting was attended by the Mayor of Avilés, Mariví Monteserín, the Councilor for Sustainability, Pelayo García, a large group of winners of the Protagonists of Tomorrow Award of the Rotary Club of Avilés and family and friends of the Club. They all got down to work collaborating in the planting, with the members of the Avilés Club.

This action, widely publicized by the media (radio stations and local newspapers), is part of the measures promoted by the Rotary Club Avilés with the aim of protecting the environment in the locality. Rotary Club Avilés is committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, foster ecological sustainability, and promote harmony between communities and the environment. This planting clearly meets these objectives. Hence the commitment of our Club with the City Council, to protect the environment as our common legacy.
